Here's my teaser this week:

I lifted a finger and took a moment to admire the way his ass filled out his jeans. Even after sitting in the car for two days straight, he still looked hot with his stubble and road-weary smile. Too bad the mage part made him off-limits.

Love Me To Death - Allison Brennan (TLC Blog Tour)

Synopsis:
  • Mass Market Paperback: 496 pages
  • Publisher: Ballantine Books; Original edition (December 28, 2010)

Six years ago, Lucy Kincaid was attacked and nearly killed by an online predator. She survived. Her attacker did not. Now Lucy’s goal is to join the FBI and fight cyber-crime, but in the meantime, she’s volunteering with a victim’s rights group, surfing the Web undercover to lure sex offenders into the hands of the law. But when the predators she hunts start turning up as murder victims, the FBI takes a whole new interest in Lucy.

With her future and possibly even her freedom suddenly in jeopardy, Lucy discovers she’s a pawn in someone’s twisted plot to mete out vigilante justice. She joins forces with security expert and daredevil Sean Rogan, and together they track their elusive quarry from anonymous online chat rooms onto the mean streets of Washington, D.C. But someone else is shadowing them: A merciless stalker has his savage eye on Lucy. The only way for her to escape his brutality may be another fight to the death.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book. Lucy is strong, vibrant, survivor and tough as nails, even with all she has been through. An amazing feat considering what all her character had endured. Sean reminded me of a big, strong teddy bear. I just wanted to hug him lol. Kate reminded me of the big mamma lion. Someone who would do anything to protect those she loved and at any cost.

The book was full of twists and turns. I was never fully sure who I should or shouldn't trust or really who the bad guys were. The storyline is one we all fear and hate to see in the headlines, sex crimes. Kidnapping, rape, murder, torture. Everything you don't want to see when you turn on the evening news.

If I had any complaints about the book, it would be, the mass amount of characters involved. Between victims, suspects, the good guys and filler characters, I noticed I spent a fair amount of time indexing people and trying to keep track of who was who. Not that this is a bad thing mind you. I think most of the characters are key players in book, you just have to be willing to take your time and really soak up the book.

Wither - A Review

Synopsis

In the not-too-distant future, because of genetic engineering, every human is a ticking time bomb.

Males only live to age twenty-five, and females only live to age twenty. To keep the population from dying out, girls are kidnapped and sold into polygamous marriages.

When sixteen-year-old Rhine is taken, she enters a world of wealth and privilege that both entices and terrifies her. She has everything she ever wanted--except freedom. With the help of Gabriel, a servant Rhine is growing dangerously attracted to, Rhine attempts to escape before it's too late.

My Thoughts:

This book sucked me in from the get go. I could feel Rhine's fear in the truck and throughout the story. Rhine is strong, independent, assertive and a fighter. Qualities that could either work for or against her in this future society.

Imagine knowing you would die at age 20 or 25? Crazy right? Not in this world. This world it's a fact. I loved the plot of the book. I also like knowing it's a start of a trilogy and not in and of itself. There's so many questions I have as to why and how. I hope we get some answers in upcoming books.

Let's talk about the characters. I think they were well written and executed through out the book. Cecily drove me nuts to be honest but her character was so well played, that I think it was meant to be that way. Jenna was sweet and a survivor if I ever saw one. A quiet person much like myself. Linden, he shocked me I wanted so very much to not like him. It didn't turn out that way though. I liked Gabriel. I liked all the little things he did for Rhine. Let's not forget Housemaster Vaughn. That character gives me the creeps in every sense of the word. I would not want to be anywhere near him, not even in the same building. He reminds me of a mad, sadistic, scientist.

Anyway, a great start and I look forward to then next installment!

Synopsis

Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.” Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book. Not a bad start to a new series and I'm curious to see where the series will go. Kylie is kind of whiny but at the same time I understand what turmoil she must me going through. Parents having issues, finding out everything she thought was a myth is true, finding out she might be different, hormones out of control, etc.

The boys in the book, wow hard to choose which one I like. I find Derek to be a great choice but then I think Lucas is a dang good choice as well. Hmm decisions, decisions. I loved Holiday's character. I think my only issue is she seemed almost like one of the teenagers at the camp instead of an adult running it. It's only a small issue though.

Okay I loved Kylie's roomies! They cracked me up with their constant bickering! Perry was pretty dang funny too. Kylie's parents annoyed the heck out of me but that's what parents are for lol.

All in all, not a bad read and I would definitely recommend it.

Cryer's Cross - A Review

Cryer's Cross - Lisa McMann (Simon & Schuster E-galley)

Product Details

  • Pub. Date: February 2011
  • Publisher: Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing
  • Format: Hardcover , 240pp
  • Sales Rank: 82,741
  • Age Range: Young Adult

Synopsis

The small town of Cryer’s Cross is rocked by tragedy when an unassuming freshman disappears without a trace. Kendall Fletcher wasn’t that friendly with the missing girl, but the angst wreaks havoc on her OCD-addled brain.

When a second student goes missing—someone close to Kendall’s heart—the community is in an uproar. Caught in a downward spiral of fear and anxiety, Kendall’s not sure she can hold it together. When she starts hearing the voices of the missing, calling out to her and pleading for help, she fears she’s losing her grip on reality. But when she finds messages scratched in a desk at school—messages that could only be from the missing student who used to sit there—Kendall decides that crazy or not, she’d never forgive herself if she didn’t act on her suspicions.

Something’s not right in Cryer’s Cross—and Kendall’s about to find out just how far the townspeople will go to keep their secrets buried.

My Thoughts:

Wow! This is the first book by Lisa McMann that I have read, and I got to say, I'm impressed! I was quickly drawn into the story and into the characters.

Kendall is one of the more unique characters I've read about. I loved having a main character who isn't perfect. I found it incredibly interesting to see life through Kendall's eyes with her OCD. It's not a subject you see in books often and I was instantly drawn into her daily struggles with maintaining control and how she has learned to cope and deal with it. My heart broke for this character and all she was going through and yet I found myself marveling at how strong of a character she really is.

The story was great as well. I admit I was wondering where it was going through a good portion of the book. I did start get an inkling about halfway through and I finally started understanding what the in between chapters were chanting about.
